FAQs
Please alert your instructor the week prior to your absence so they can help you plan accordingly. The weekly activities are somewhat self-contained, so missing a class won’t ruin your experience and you can typically catch up the following week. We also share a YouTube Playlist with access to instructor demos for your review.
If it fits your schedule, you may do an extra Student Open Studio visit the week before or after your absence. If you have to miss the last week please coordinate with staff for an abbreviated glaze walk-through so we can help ensure good results for your finished pieces.
Yes – you will have access to unlimited clay during your class AND your class fee includes up to 10lbs. of finished fired work. Make as much as you like and feel free to make some mistakes too. You decide what to keep and fire each week. Firing beyond 10 lbs. will be charged at the current member Firing Credit rate.
Ten pounds is about 8-12 pieces of finished, glazed pottery from a beginning level class.
Yes, of course! While we have found many beginning students do not exceed ten pounds in six weeks you are welcome to make as much work as you like. Anything above and beyond the 10 lbs included in your class fee can be fired at the current Member Firing Credit rate, which is currently $3.00/lb. If this is of concern to you, we recommend self-recording the weight of your pieces as you go because our tallying process typically finishes after class completion.
Yes, during the six weeks you are registered for a class at MCP, you will be able to use the studio once per week for 3 hours in addition to your class. Student Open Studio hours occur Monday-Saturday and a schedule will be emailed prior to your class. This includes some evening studio hours during the week and weekend, but excludes times when other classes are meeting.
