We’ve had more interest for a TEEN class on Thursday evenings, than for adults. And so…
Beginning & Intermediate Wheel for Teens (ages 11-16)
Thursday evenings, 6:30 – 8:00pm, July 16 – August 13 (5 weeks) w/ Nicky Ross
Fee: $110, includes 10#’s finished fired work (please see FAQ’s below for details)
Instructor Nicky Ross, assisted by MCP volunteer Shandra Bjyrd, will lead this slightly shorter summer session. The five week course will introduce the potter’s wheel to those who are giving it a try for the first time, as well as providing guidance and new tips for those who may have already spent some time on the wheel. Participants will experience the entire ceramics process from “throwing to glazing” and will complete a small series of pots. Instruction will include trimming and handles, and few tricks for surface design. Wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty and please secure long hair!
HOW TO REGISTER FOR TEEN CLASS: Since the class begins tonight, just show up with check or cash. We can also process debit & credit card payments at the studio, but not over the phone.
-You may always call or e-mail with questions: 608-255-9240 / firstname.lastname@example.org
Class fees are non-refundable once the first class session has met.
Does my class fee include clay, glaze and firing fees? Yes – your class fee includes up to 10lbs. / 15 lbs. of finished fired work (5 or 6wk session = 10lbs, 8wk session=15lbs). This means that you may use as much clay as you like each time you come in to work and then you decide what you would like to keep and fire.
Can you give me a general idea of what “ten pounds of pottery” might look like? We have found many beginning students in a wheel 1 class do not exceed ten pounds in six weeks. Ten pounds is about 8-12 pieces of finished, glazed pottery from a beginning class.
May I make more than 10lbs. /15lbs. of work? Yes, of course – work above and beyond the amount included in your class fee can be fired based on MCP’s standard per pound material/firing fee, which is currently $2.50/lb.
May I work in the studio outside of class? Teens will need to purchase a kids’ punch card to use the studio outside of class time – please speak with your instructor for details.
