As always, class registration includes 10lbs. of finished work* and access to a generous schedule of open studio hours for independent practice. We’re offering a new class on Thursday morning this session; see description below. All classes are limited to 8 students, and they fill quickly!

PLEASE NOTE: No classes during the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov 24-29.

Give us a call today to register – 608-255-9240

WHEEL 1 – This ever-popular class is designed for anyone new to the potter’s wheel, as well as those with some experience interested in re-establishing a firm foundation for more advanced work. Our skilled instructors guide you through the entire ceramic process tailoring each lesson to suit the often diverse needs of the group. Students generally leave the class with several completed mugs and bowls. This is a fantastic opportunity to become acquainted with the MCP community, and many people enjoy taking this class several times before continuing onto other classes.

-Tuesdays 9-11am, (Oct 28– Dec 9) w/ Nicky Ross    Fee: $209.                                       Please note: This morning class is 30 minutes shorter than our other adult classes.

-Tuesdays 6:30-9:00pm (Oct 28 – Dec 9) w/ Nicky Ross  Fee: $239.

WHEEL 1.5 – Keep the fun rolling and take your throwing skills to the next level! Designed for people who have taken one or more sessions of Wheel 1 and eager to continue. MCP is offering this course w/ Nicky as an opportunity to work towards readiness for a full-fledged Wheel 2 class. In addition to demonstrations and hands-on instruction, there will be conversation about what qualifies as a ‘well made’ pot and how to approach function.

-Thursdays 6:30-9:00pm, (Oct 30 – Dec 11) w/ Nicky Ross          Fee: $239.

HANDBUILDING 1 & 2: Building with Clay Off the Wheel This class covers a variety of techniques such as coiling, slab building and pinching and provides individualized instruction for beginners as well as those with clay experience. Functional and sculptural forms will be explored. This class is ideal for those new to ceramics, as well as those with some experience looking to broaden their understanding of the material and handbuilding principles. Many experienced throwing students find this class a helpful supplement to our wheel classes. Students will benefit from demonstrations, hands-on teaching as well as facilitated work time.

This session, Saturday’s class is considered HANDBUILDING 2 with an emphasis on supporting students who may have already taken a handbuilding class and wish to contintue w/ self generated projects while learning new techniques and approaches to handbuilding both sculptural and functional forms.

-Wednesdays 6:30-9:00pm, ( Oct 29 – Dec 10) w/ Brian Kluge  Fee: $239.

-Saturdays 9:00-11:00am, (Nov 1 – Dec 13) w/ Brian Kluge        Fee: $209.

Please note: This morning class is 30 minutes shorter than our other adult classes.

HANDBUILT TEAPOTS – This new class w/ MCP’s owner, Jennifer Lapham, is designed with our current studio members in mind. Many of you have taken ARC’s teapot class in the past year and we will focus on further development of this complex functional form. Our explorations will culminate in each student making three teapots, essentially the same form, interpreted through three different approaches to construction and surface.   Intermediate level clay experience required. If you are new to MCP, please call to speak with the instructor Jennifer about joining this class.

-Thursday mornings 9:30-12:00pm, (Oct 30 – Dec 11) w/ Jennifer Lapham    Fee: $239.

*PLEASE NOTE: This class does not include ten pounds of firing tickets.

PRIVATE LESSONS – Don’t want to commit to a class this session?  MCP’s Teaching Staff offer private lessons! Whether you have some experience, or are starting fresh, private lessons can be very beneficial. Lessons are tailored to your needs, interests and skill level. In general, private lessons are scheduled Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm, however, we can occasionally accommodate an evening lesson. One week’s notice, or more, is required to schedule all private lessons. Individual adult private lessons are $50 for 75 minutes of hands on, in-depth instruction.

FAQ’s                                                                                                       Does my class fee include clay, glaze and firing fees?  Yes – your class fee includes up to 10lbs. of finished fired work.  This means that you may use as much clay as you like each time you come in to work and then you decide what you would like to keep and fire.

Can you give me a general idea of what “ten pounds of pottery” might look like?  We have found many beginning students in a wheel 1 class do not exceed ten pounds in six weeks.  Ten pounds is about 8-12 pieces of finished, glazed pottery from a beginning class.

May I make more than 10lbs. of work?  Yes, of course – work above and beyond the initial ten pounds included in your class fee can be fired based on MCP’s standard per pound material/firing fee, which is currently $2.50/lb.

May I work in the studio outside of class?  Yes – during the six weeks you are registered for a class at MCP, you have access Tuesday-Saturday during regular studio hours.  We also offer evening studio hours, which vary with each session, so please check with staff for our current schedule. This schedule is not posted anywhere on line – you must get it from your instructor.
