Kids’ Open Studio anytime during our regular business hours:

Kids’ open studio is an opportunity for families to attend on a drop-in basis and children are encouraged to experiment and work independently without the constraints of a particular goal.  This is a time for children to explore building, banging, cutting, pinching, rolling, etc… with a mound of clay.   Studio staff are always available to help everyone get started, make suggestions, and problem-solve.  Pottery wheels are generally not available during Kids’ Open Studio, though exceptions may be made for kids ages 10 and up with prior wheel experience at Midwest Clay Project.

Midwest Clay Project is available for Kids’ Open Studio anytime during our regular business hours: Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm.   Children under age 5 always require the supervision of an adult. We do offer After School Drop-Off  Open Studio on  Monday afternoon 1:00-5:00 (to accommodate MMSD “early release”), and Tuesday – Friday afternoons between 3:00-5:00pm.  During this two hour window, children age 5 and up may work for a 75 minute stretch under the supervision of MCP staff and adults may leave the premises to enjoy a quiet moment to themselves.

•Fee:  $10. for a parent & child open studio session (1+1/4hrs.), there is no studio fee charged when a child under age three is part of a larger family group.
•Purchase a five session punch card for $50. and receive a sixth visit for free!  We will conveniently store your card at the front desk.  For more info click “Punchcards“.

Kids’ Open Studio  – Underglazing Fee Info:

We charge a per piece (or grouping of several small items) underglazing fee ranging from $2 – $5 depending on size. This is a separate charge from our $10 open studio fee paid right after new pieces are created. When you return to paint your bisque fired work after 7-10 days, there is no charge unless you make new things during the same visit. The purchase of a Family Feldspar membership ($100 annually) entitles you to free underglazing for a year as well as other great deals, more info here  “Clay Crew”.
