Midwest Clay Project

Midwest Clay Project offers a fully functioning ceramics studio with ample open studio hours.  We provide our studio claybody, a mid-fire white stoneware, as part of your studio fee, and we also sell other claybodies in small quantities.  Our rich palette of cone 6 oxidation glazes, colored slips and underglazes is always available and will continue to evolve and expand over time.  Throughout the year, Midwest Clay Project will occasionally participate in other types of firings at off-site locations (gas reduction, woodkiln, etc…) and for a small fee, regular studio members will be given opportunities to participate in these events.  We ask that individuals who wish to use the studio independently have prior clay experience and follow our developing studio practices (a staff member will show you around on your first visit) – current and former students are always welcome.  Adult open studio options are as follows:

• One Time Drop-In – $12.  (underglaze/firing fees apply, generally $2-$5 per piece)
  
• Punch Card – $60.  (6 visits for the price of 5!  Up to 2hrs each visit,  10lbs of finished fired clay included in punch card fee.)
• Monthly Membership – $60.  (best value for frequent visits, use as much wet clay as desired, 10lbs of finished fired clay included in monthly fee)  Please see our monthly membership page for details and benefits of this option.

Midwest Clay Project’s gallery and studio are open to the public during our regular business hours from 10am-5pm Monday through Saturday.  Additionally, the studio is open certain evenings for regular (adult) studio patrons who are able to work independently and who have made arrangements to use the studio (punch card, monthly membership, current class registration).  The evening schedule may vary each month based upon the current class schedule, though MCP will always dedicate at least one evening during the week for adult open studio from 5pm-9pm.  The gallery is not open for transactions and staff are not available for consultation during these evenings hours unless a special event is scheduled.***Please note***  The front door will be locked at 5pm as a standard safety practice.  If you arrive after 5pm, please ring the doorbell and/or call the studio number and someone will gladly let you in (608.255.9240).
