About
Midwest Clay Project is a fully equipped ceramics studio at 918 Williamson Street on Madison’s east side. Awareness and appreciation of the ceramic arts is at the heart of our mission. With programming designed to support everyone from the novice to the professional, Midwest Clay Project provides a dynamic and inspirational place for people of all ages and abilities to work in clay.
Founder Jennifer A. Lapham brings over twenty years experience as an artist and educator to Midwest Clay Project which offers the most comprehensive ceramic arts center in the area with potters’ wheels, equipment for a variety of hand-building and slip-casting projects and a colorful palette of cone 6 oxidation glazes. Opportunities will also be available throughout the year for off-site gas kiln reduction firings and traditional wood-firings.
Midwest Clay Project is uniquely designed to accommodate children and adults with a wide range of physical abilities and special needs. In addition to the facility being handicapped accessible, there is specialized equipment including a potter’s wheel designed for use with a wheelchair.
We also feature a sales gallery with an exciting collection of contemporary ceramic objects by local, regional and nationally known artists, as well as a selection of other fine handcrafted items. In addition to rotating exhibitions, the gallery includes a children’s shelf with objects for purchase under a dollar, as well as special pottery items for kids and families.
Visitors are always welcome to tour the gallery and studio!
